Slow, deep processes; little fever, but great weakness. Sickly, chilly and cachectic. Fair, fat and sluggish. Bitings, like bugs. ADHESIVE SECRETIONS; STICKY taste, expectoration, leucorrhœa, foot-sweat, etc. STRINGY, TOUGH, lumpy or thick discharges. Fibrous exudates going downward. Yellow, eyes, vision, tongue, etc. Slow reaction. Heaviness. Crusts in nose, on skin, etc. Pains in small spots; jump about and finally attack stomach. Sharp stitches. Ascending; gastric pains, chills, heats, etc. Furred membranes. Old catarrhs. Ulcers; with dark dots, deep, perforating, round; look punched out; septal; peptic; with overhanging edges or thick crusts. Like a solid block on forehead. As of a hair on tongue, in nostril, etc. Internal itching; vagina, lungs, etc. Cracking joints. .................... Indifferent. Indolent. Pains outward along (r) brow. Bristling hair. Blindness, then pain over one eye, < cold, > pressing on root of nose. Migraine. Vision seems crossed, > looking with one eye. Eye-lids red, itching, swelled, granular. Nose pains at bridge or root; pressure or stuffed at root; retains foul secretions. Abscess. Ozœna. Nasal discharges, acrid; profuse; green clinkers. Nasal diphtheria. Snuffles. Radiating toothache; with swelled glands. Tongue, glistens; cracked, smooth or heavy, lemon yellow cast; pains when protruded. Sticky mouth. Sweet, metallic taste. Hawks thick mucus; must wipe it away. Œdema of uvula. Fissured pharynx. Throat; dry; burning in; something sticks in; with pains into neck and shoulders. Craves beer. Regurgitates liquids. Vomits bright yellow water. Sore spot in stomach, or food lies like a load. Constriction from liver to shoulder. Gelatinous stools or gushes of brown, frothy water, then burning and tenesmus, < after rising. Heavy kidneys. A drop remains after urinating. Constriction at root of penis. Acrid leucorrhœa. Milk is stringy. Hoarseness. Laryngitis. Tickling cough, after eating; with eructations; > heat; then vertigo.

This remedy is recognized by most physicians by the copious ropy mucous discharges from all mucous membranes, but it is also a most important remedy in rheumatic affections of the joints with swelling, heat and redness, whenever these conditions wander around from joint to joint. The bones all over the body feel bruised, and caries is reckoned among its symptoms. A marked feature of this remedy is the alternation between catarrhal symptoms and rheumatic pains. Exudations from mucous membranes, somewhat like croup, are found in the larynx, trachea and in the rectum. it is not surprising, therefore, that it has proved a very effective remedy in diphtheria. It emaciates, like the rest of the Kali salts. We have running through it the cachectic conditions, or malignant diseases with ulceration; and especially is it indicated when the ulceration period is present. Ulceration: is a striking feature of this remedy. Its ulcers are deep; are said to be as if punched out and are very red. Gouty conditions are as common in this remedy as in the other Kalis. It is especially like Causticum with its cracking in the joints. Syphilitic conditions have been cured in the most advanced stages. It has the sharp stitching pains like Kali carb., it has one feature quite its own very severe pain in small spots that could be covered by the end of the thumb. Pains: It has wandering pains from place to place, and wandering rheumatism in from joint to joint. There are pains in all parts. Pains are sometimes very violent; sometimes shooting; sometimes stitching stinging; again aching. Burning is a very marked symptom of the remedy. The pains appear rapidly and disappear suddenly. Cold and warm: The patient is sensitive to cold. There is a lack of vital heat.

Nose. Septum narium completely ulcerated away. Entire cartilaginous septum destroyed, and the whole nasal mucus membrane in a state of purulent inflammation : the disease had been mistaken for syphilis. Nose very dry with a feeling of pressure in the nasal bones. Dryness of nose. Formation of plug in nostrils. Pressive pain in root of nose. Expired air feels very hot in nose. Nose stuffed up, especially upper part ; difficulty in detaching thick mucus, which more -readily passes by posterior nares. Clinkers in nose ; if allowed to remain a feiv days can be easily detached ; if pulled away too soon, leave soreness at root of nose and intolerance to light. Discharge of tough green masses, or hard plugs. Mucus tough, ropy, green, bloody ; in clear masses ; violent pain from occiput to forehead if discharge ceases. Fetid smell from nose. Chronic suppuration of Ear ; membrana tymfani perforated ; . . . secretion is often more mucus than pus ; discharge yellow, thick, tenacious, so that it may be drawn through perforation in strings ; lancinations, sticking sensations. . . . Tongue smooth, red and cracked. Dryness of Mouth. Syphilitic affections of mouth and fauces. Hawking of thick gelatinous mucus in the morning. Hawking of a considerable quantity of tenacious mucus in c.m. On root of uvula, right side, an excavated sore, half the size of a split pea, with a reddish areola, containing a yellow tenacious matter. Deep-éating ulcers of fauces, often syphilitic. Diphtheria : pseudo-membranous deposit, firm, pearly, fibrinous; apt to extend downwards to larynx and trachea : bladder-like appear ance of'uvula, much swelling, little redness. Stomach. Complete loss of appetite. Vomiting. Nausea and vomiting of drunkards. Diarrhoea-like stool consisting of broWn frothy water (with exces sively painful pressure), urging and tenesmus. Bad effects of over-indulgence in beer ; great weight in pit of stomach ; flatulence ; . .

Kali bichromicum is a remedy with some very marked and characteristic features, all its own. It is a corrosive irritant poison, deeply destructive to the tissues it attacks. Therefore, acting gently and healingly in the potencies, it soothes and stimu lates repair in certain, often terrible, conditions of mucous membrane and skin—i.e., where natural and drug-sickness match. ..." Drugs are sick-making and sick-curing, and the sickness is the same." * * * One spots Kali bich. by its stringiness, its spottiness, its yellowness. In Crocus the haemorrhages, from whatever source, draw out into long black strings ; but with Kali bich. it is the purulent, or mucous discharges, from whatever source, that draw out into long strings—strings even " from mouth to floor ”. Stringy discharges from nose, throat, ear, eye, chest, vulva, urethra—" urine alkaline and ropy ” ; vomit of like character, even the milk looking like " stringy matter and water”, suggest Kali bich. Though the drug also tends to produce ‘‘ lumpy masses ” (mucous), tough—and of all degrees from bland to very offensive ;—white—yellow —green. Its most characteristic pains appear in spots. The characteristic pains of Berberis radiate from a centre : those that suggest Kali bich. occur in small spots which can be "covered with the tip of a finger ”. Such pains occur in some of its headaches,— “ semilateral headaches in small spots " ; "dull pain or stitches in right chest over a circumscribed spot ”—in right hypochondrium : just to left of ensiform cartilage : in sacrum. Though it has also shooting and stitching pains. Its ulcerations, also, are typically round—deep—looking as if punched out. They occur in mucous membranes, especially stomach : in skin : in eyes : even in bones.
