Cachectic or senile patients. Large head, with wasted body. Fair, clear complexion. KEENLY SENSITIVE; to noise, pain or cold; hugs the stove. Violent sticking pains; localized; in ears, throat, ulcers, etc. Exaggerated reflexes. Contracted sphincters. Spasms. Tendency to easy exhaustion, abnormal sweats and suppuration. Adapted to the nervous, irritable, sanguine temperament; persons of a psoric diathesis. Persons of light complexion; fine dry skin; pale face; weakly, with lax muscles. Constitutions which suffer from deficient nutrition, not because food is lacking in quality or quantity, but from imperfect assimilation (Bar-c., Calc.); over-sensitive, physically and mentally. Scrofulous, rachitic children with large heads; open fontanelles and sutures; much sweating about the head (lower than Calc.), which must be kept warm by external covering (Sanic.); distended abdomen; weak ankles; slow in learning to walk. Ailments: Caused by suppressed foot-sweat (Cupr., Graph., Psor.); exposing the head or back to any slight draft of air; bad effects of vaccination, especially abscesses and convulsions (Thuj.); chest complaints of stonecutters with total loss of strength. Great weariness and debility; wants to lie down. Nervous debility; exhaustion with erythism; from hard work and close confinement; may be overcome by force of will. Want of vital heat, always chilly, even when taking active exercise (Led., Sep.). Has a wonderful control over the suppurative process—soft tissue, periosteum or bone—maturing abscesses when desired or reducing excessive suppuration (affecting chiefly the soft tissues, Calen., Hep.). Night walking; gets up while asleep, walks about and lies down again (Kali-br.). Takes cold from exposure of feet (Con., Cupr.). Sweat of hands, toes, feet and axillae; offensive. Desire to be magnetized, which > (Phos.). Promotes expulsion of foreign bodies from the tissue; fish bones, needles, bone splinters. Inflammation, swelling and suppuration of glands, cervical, axillary, parotid, mammary, inguinal, sebaceous; malignant, gangrenous.

(Hahnemann and Hering, chiefly :) Weakness of memory ; when he has read something, after a few minutes he remembers it only dimly, and when he thought about anything- for himself, it soon after escaped him, and after long reflection he could hardly recall it. Indifference, low-spirited, dullness of mind. Children are ill-humoured and cry jor things, which after gettingthey petulantly push or throw away (com. Cham.) : worse early morning. Great indignation about things done by others, or by hitnself ; grieves about consequences. Ailments frotn indignation and vexation, or reserved displeasure ; sleeplessness. Aching, stupifying pain, in h ea d, especially in forehead. As if brain compressed, especially forehead, with roaring in ears which goes off sooner than headache. Feels as if occiput were compressed inwardly and outwardly. Heaviness of head ; hard pressure in head, right temporal bone and vertex. Pressive pain in left temple outwardly and inwardly, as if the finger were strongly pressed on it. Pressive boring stitch, left forehead, from within outwards, its violence wakes him from sleep in the morning. Sharp, burning needle-pricks in left temple. Obtuse shooting in right temple, outwardly and inwardly, as if the bone would be pressed out : more violent when touched. Painful drawing externally on several parts of head, more violent when touched. Itching papules on nape. Ey es.

Ty p ic a l Silica crawls nervously in, or is dragged in on his mother’s hand, and you can hardly miss him. He is the most homoeopathic drug you can imagine ! Read the black type only’ in Allen’s Cyclopedia, and see how extra ordinarily suggestive the provings are in regard to tuberculosis, especially abdominal ; to pustules, boils and abscesses ; to effects of splinters, stings and abrasions ; to lack of reaction against injury and disease. Silica, they say, lacks grit—needs sand. And doses of Silica stimulate mightily these weaklings who are going under, to put up a fight, mental and physical. You look up, as poor little Silica is dragged reluctantly in. He is listless ; not interested ; not frightened. You see a pale, sickly, suffering face ; and you realize at once that there is something deeply wrong here ; no mere ailment— DISEASE. Now for the mother’s story—in Allen’s black type—for they are identical : “ He doesn’t get on, he doesn’t. He doesn’t thrive. He doesn't learn ; he doesn’t even play. He is irritable and grumpy. He is always at the bottom of everything, and his teacher can't make nothink of him ; she writes, see !—‘ he shrinks from effort, from the least responsibility, and is utterly lacking in self- confidence and self-assertion.’ Doesn’t seem to have no ‘ go ’ in him. He doesn’t seem to be able to think ! He can’t fix his mind. He can't read or write. And yet he’s always worried to death over little things he's done wrong. That's it : he’s so odd, and so unlike the others. “ He gets violent attacks of headache, she says, and complains that the back of his head is cold. That’s where the pain is, but it goes all over his head. He says his head will burst. He wants it tied up tight. He wants it warm.
