digestive sphere. .................... Icy finger-tips. Whines before attack, cough, etc. Crushing weight on chest. Won't be touched or looked at. Prostrated in mind and body. Stupid on awaking. Unwilling to be looked at or touched. Wants to be carried up-right. Mucus in tarsi. One eye closed. Upper lip drawn up. Tongue: thick white pasty coat; very red or red streaks; dry down middle. Flow of saliva. Craves apples. Vomits or expectorates with great effort. Abdomen feels full of stones. Expectoration: gluey; suppressed. Feet go to sleep on sitting down. Shocks on dropping to sleep. Asphyxia neonatorum. Apathy or easily annoyed; wants to be let alone. Peevish, whining and moaning. Clings to attendants. Consciousness wanes on closing eyes (Cann-i.). As of a lump in forehead. Sooty or flapping nostrils. Sickly, sunken, pale, bluish or twitching face; covered with cool sweat. Papillæ show through white coat on tongue. Tongue flabby, red in streaks. Craves acids, which disagree. Belchings, like bad eggs. NAUSEA; in waves; with weakness and cold sweat (Lob. Ver-a.), loathing or anxiety. Forcible vomiting; then exhaustion and sleep (Æth.). Violent retching. Sinking at stomach. Mucus or grass, green stools. Diarrhœa; of eruptive diseases. Unequal breathing. SUFFOCATIVE SHORTNESS OF BREATH; before cough or alternating with cough; a leaflet seems over trachea. LOOSE, COARSE, RATTLING COUGH; CHEST SEEMS FULL, YET LESS AND LESS IS RAISED; then vomiting or sleep (Æth.); < anger. Must sit up to breathe or cough. Coughs and yawns alternately. Thick expectoration. Capillary bronchitis or bronchitis. Pleuro-pneumonia. Paralytic depression of heart and lungs (Bar-c.). Violent (lumbar) backache; < lifting; motion excites retching and cold sweat. Restless arms. Dropsy of legs. Yawning; with many complaints. SOMNOLENCY; with all complaints, or from warmth. Torpid, cool, SWEATY SKIN. Delayed or receding, blue or pustular eruptions. Sycosis barbæ. Smallpox. Impetigo. Weak, quick pulse.

Bad humour. The child wants to be carried (Cham), cries if anyone touches it ; will not let you feel the pulse. Dim, swimming eyes. Pallor.. Pale, sunken face. Rheumatic toothache of intermitting type. During dentition, catarrhal hyperesmia. Tongue very red, dry in the middle. Tongue red in streaks. Tongue covered with thick, white, pasty coat. Much mucus in throat with short breathing. Disgust for food, frequent nausea and relief by vomiting. Belching which relieves. Nausea causes great anxiety. Continuous anxious nausea, straining to vomit, with sweat on the forehead. Nausea, vomiting atul loss of appetite. Vomits with great effort. A bsence of thirst. A bsence of thirst the whole day. Vomiting, followed by great languor, drowsiness, loathing, and desire for cooling things. Great precordial anxiety with vomiting of mucus and bile. Sharp cutting colic before stool. Child at birth pale, breathless, gasping, though the cord stilt pulsates. The mucus rattles in the chest. Rattling of mucus when coughing or breathing. Rattling originates in the upper bronchi and can be heard at a great distance. Much rattling of mucus in trachea ; cannot get it up. Shortness of breath from suppressed expectoration, especially if drowsy. Unequal breath, now shorter, then longer, much more frequent when lying.

(" Tartar emetic ”) Hering says of this drug, “ An invention of the alchemists, very popular with them, forbidden by the French Academy, finally introduced and much used and much abused by the Old School.” Old School, Farrington says, does not make much play in these days with Tartar emetic : and he is borne out by its present day teachings, for we are told (Hale White) that “ many years ago an ointment, of Tartar emetic was applied as a counter irritant : but it causes too much pain and is now seldom used That Tartar emetic " cannot be recommended as an emetic, its action is slow and its general depression great. It should never be given to produce purgation It is also pronounced “ an undesirable expectorant ”. But this is qualified. ..." The only cases in which it is permissible are those in which an emetic is required for laryngitis, bronchitis, or some other acute inflammatory condition of the respiratory tract, for then its depressant action on the circidation may perhaps be beneficial, but usually Ipecacuanha is preferable.” For its uses in the nervous and muscular systems, " it has now been abandoned ” : and " it is much less used in medicine than formerly ”. Thus Old School, with its crude methods and crude dosage, fails to realize the precious life-savers at its command, and leaves practical and curative medicine to the disciples of Hahnemann. * * * " .hit. tart." was proved by Hahnemann and some of his students: but his provings were only published in Stapf’s Archives: —in our Hospital Library : but one does not joyfully grub in the old German books, when one can get the desired matter in other, later, English works. it has many pains and aches. To a great exent Ant. tart. builds upon the Antimonium crudum basis. It forms its chest symptoms to a great extent upon that basis. Many of the symptoms are like Antimonium crudum; many symptoms are worse when warmed up, and from too much clothing. You will see this patient sitting up in bed with no clothing around the shoulders or neck, and the night- gown wide open in order to breathe. Suffocates if the room is too warm. It gets that from the Antimonium crud. It is worse from bathing in cold water, like Antimonium crud. The mucous membranes are covered with thick white mucus, like Antimonium. crud. Also he does not want to be meddled with or bothered. Everything is a burden. The child when sick doesn't want to be touched or talked to or looked at. Wants to be let alone. The infant is always keeping up a pitiful whining and moaning. Many times the respiration is a moaning respiration. Rattling and moaning. Always in bad humor, that is, extremely irritable when disturbed. Any disturbance seems to increase the breathing and is an annoyance and makes the patient irritable. No wonder the patient is wonderfully anxious, because from his appearance we would say that he must have the feeling that he is dying. He looks as if he were sinking, and if he does not get relief soon he certainly will die, for there is a filling up of the chest that is suffocating him, and the feeling is that of suffocation, dyspnoea, which is steadily increasing. The wings of the nose move as in Lycopodium. Lycopodium competes with it very closely and resembles it very much. There are many headaches laid down under Antimonium tart., but Antimonium crud.
