WEAK OR DEBILITATED, with free secretions. Slowness. Pains go to part lain on. Bruised soreness; like growing pains. Sense of pressure. Formication; at roots of hair; along spine, limbs, etc. Loose joints. Grows too fast. .................... Quiet. Indifferent, APATHETIC, obtuse or torpid; with tendency to diarrhœa or sweatiness. Slow grasp. Can't collect his ideas; hunts for words. Poor memory. Dull despair. Averse to talking. Brain-fag. Mild delirium; easily aroused. Crushing weight on vertex. Early grayness. Falling hair. Dull, sunken eyes with blue circles; they feel pressed out. Eye-balls feel large. Pale, sickly face; white of egg seems dried on it. Bleeding gums. Slimy tongue. Craves juices. Sour stomach. PROFUSE, PAINLESS, DIRTY WHITE, WATERY or LIENTERIC STOOL; BUT LITTLE DEBILITY. THICK, MILKY URINE. Polyuria. Diabetes. Weak, relaxed genitals; suddenly during coitus. Pollutions. Takes colds; < draft on chest. Shaking cough. Twisting under xiphoid. Paralytic weakness along spine. Heavy fore-arms. Scraping bone-pains, at night. Clammy wrinkled skin. SLEEPY BY DAY; but wakeful at night. Cold parts; one side of face, abdomen, etc. Burning along spine; below waist; kidney region. Heat with sweat. Profuse sweats; < night; as a sequel. Sluggish, painless fevers.

Excitability even to ecstasy and clairvoyance. The mind may be overactive or may be extremely passive with loss of memory. Irritability of mind and body and great prostration of mind after slight mental effort, and of the body afar slight physical exertion. Anxiety, gloomy forebodings. Fear that something will happen. Anxious at twilight. Anxious when alone. Apprehensiveness. Apprehensive during thunder storms, which brings on many complaints; palpitation, diarrhea and trembling. Trembling of the whole body. Attacks of indigestion from fear. Fear in the evening, fear of death. Fear of strange old faces looking at him from the corner. Full of strange, insane imaginations. On the border land of insanity. Inability to sustain a mental effort. Fear of apoplexy. Reflecting brings on headache and difficult breathing associated with apprehensiveness or sinking at the pit of the stomach. His fear seems to begin 'at the pit of the stomach. Apathy or indifference; indifferent to his friends and surroundings. Indifferent to his children. Answers no questions, takes no notice of his family and things about him, answers slowly, thinks sluggishly, seems dazed or in a stupor. Everything looks dark, he is weary of life, gloomy and says nothing. Dejected; a most marked case of hypochondriasis. Weeping, sad, hysterical; will uncover the body and expose his person. Violent, loquacious; delirium. Delirium of low forms of fever, or delirium of mania a potu. Maniacal attacks come on during sleep with fury and extreme violence, so that no one dares approach him, and this progresses to imbecility, silliness, weak brain, idiocy.

The complaints of Phosphorus are most likely to arise in the feeble constitutions, such as have been born sick, grown up slender, and grown too rapidly. Its complaints are found in such as are emaciated, and in those who are rapidly emaciating; in children who are going into marasmus, and in persons who have in them the foundation of consumption fairly well laid. Delicate, waxy, anemic and emaciated subjects. In persons who are vehement, irascible. This expresses the person's disposition somewhat as well as his internal constitutional state. Internally he is in a turmoil. Subject to violent pulsations, complaints from electric changes in the atmosphere; violent palpitations and orgasms. In chlorotic girls who have grown too rapidly and have suddenly taken on weakness, pallor, green sickness, with menstrual difficulties. Ebullitions and congestions. Hemorrhagic constitutions. Blood: Small wounds bleed much; the prick of the needle will bubble forth much bright red blood. Hemorrhage from small wounds, from the nose, from the lungs, from the stomach, from the bladder and from the uterus. Bleeding from ulcerations. False granulations that bleed. Purpura hoemorrhagica. Black and blue spots. Blood settles beneath the conjunctiva, or beneath the skin anywhere. Bloody saliva; evidences of disorganized blood, or that the blood seems to become fluid. Small bruises take on broad blue spots. Blows much blood out of the nose. Petechiae all over the body, such as are found in typhoid fever, low forms of continued fever with hemorrhages. Fungous growth. Fatty degeneration is a marked feature of Phosphorus, and can be found in the liver, heart or kidneys. General dropsical condition.

Quiet. Indifferent. Loss of ideas, and weakness of mind. He cannot collect his thoughts in proper manner. He speaks unwillingly ; talking is irksome. Speaks little and answers questions unwillingly. Listless, apathetic : remarkable indifference to everything in life, especially if there be emaciation and debility. Ailments from care, grief, chagrin, homesickness, or disappointed love : particularly with drowsiness, night sweats iov ordz morning ; emaciation. He looks very ill humoured and sullen. Sad humour, on account of concern for the f uture. He became very cheerful and well disposed : (secondary, curative reaction). Schoolgirls’ headaches, from over-use of eyes. Occipital headaches and pain nape of neck from exhausted nerve power or excessive grief. Confusion of whole head. H eadache like stupidity ; buzzing in head. Constant headache. On the slightest shock or noise, the pains in the head become extremely violent. Hard pressure on left side forehead. Squeezing pressure right temple, more violent on moving. Squeezing pressure in both parietal bones ; worse on moving. Pain as if temples were pressed towards one another, as if violently pinched by forceps. Drawing pressure in right parietal and occipital bones, more violent when moving. Tearing and squeezing pain in brain, here and there. Tearing pressure in occiput, worse noise and slightest movement. Violent shooting pain, right temporal, extending into rigid eye. Burning, sore pain on the side of nape. Vertigo towards evening, when standing and walking. Vertigo in the morning, making him fall when standing. Transient burning left eye, as if something pungent had been smelt. Pain as if eyeballs were forcibly pressed together and into head. Itching in the point of nose : must scratch. Violent burning pain in right lower lip, persisting when moved. Bleeding gums. PHOSPHORIC A U u Dry feeling, palate.

f>34 Another of Hahnemann’s legacies in Materia Medica Pura. He gives directions for its preparation and for its potentization up to the " trillion-fold dilution Of Phos. acid he writes, “ The following remarkable, pure, artificial morbid symptoms produced by Phosphoric acid on the healthy body indicate of themselves the natural morbid states in which it is specially curative by reason of its homoeopathic similarity.” Some drugs exhilarate, others depress : but among the depressants there may be an active depressant condition, Aurum being an extreme instance, where the depression is so great as to drive the victim towards suicide. Not so with Phosphoric acid. Here the depression takes the form of extreme indifference. “ Listless, apathetic ; remarkable indifference to everything in life : especially if there be emaciation and debility.” It is ” the remedy of ailments from care, grief, sorrow, chagrin, homesickness, disappointed love : particularly when accompanied by night-sweats towards morning, and emaciation ”. Bodily, as well as mental functions share in its depression and debility. And then Hahnemann’s joyful experience, in return for his well-placed dose, ” He became very cheerful and well disposed ” ; the curative effect of a drug that has caused and can therefore cure. It is these things that make life worth living ! Phosphoric acid is a drug of rather narrow, yet very definite and great utility. Look at the types that need its help. The weedy, over-grown, over-wrought schoolchildren, with growing pains that may spell heart-destruction. The tired and apathetic from unequal struggling with adverse circumstances, mental and physical. The “ neurasthenics ” that plague us; those, at least, who arc worn out, indifferent, apathetic and emaciated.
