The Physician’s Mission · Cure

Organon Aphorism §1

The physician’s high and only mission is to restore the sick to health, to cure, as it is termed.

Samuel Hahnemann, Organon of Medicine, 6th edition (Boericke translation, public domain).

Explanation

Hahnemann defines the singular duty of a physician as healing. This is the guiding principle of the entire Organon — everything else flows from this simple mandate.

Clinical Interpretation

In clinical practice this means results matter above all theory. A physician must judge every therapeutic decision by one standard: does this restore the patient to health?

Modern Context

Modern integrative medicine echoes this by measuring success through patient-reported outcomes and quality of life, not merely laboratory values.
